Extreme Emotional Reactions Print
I needed to take a child to a friend's house. When we arrived, I left my 18 month old son in the car with his older sister for a moment while I walked the child to the door. When I returned my daughter said that my son started screaming and biting himself when I disappeared. (a. 5.5mo, FC)

In addition to NOT being able to handle discipline of any kind (if we said a gentle "no" he dissolved into tears. We stopped saying no, of course!), my son would overreact to ANY kind of pain or problem. If his brother bumped into him slightly, he would cry real tears for a long time while I rocked him and cooed to him. If I gave him a disapproving look, he would dissolve into tears--always REAL, full-blown crying, never fake. He seemed to actually be in physical pain at these times. (a. 14mo, FC)
