Rich in content, the Because They Waited™ program addresses research behind topics such as: Brain development The Cycle of Need and Unmet Need The internal alarm Sensory Integrative Dysfunction Attachment Trauma Multi-Cultural/Transracial Adoption A teacher, partnered with a social worker, presenters Julie Drew and Katie Sharp draw from their own experiences as adoptive mothers to lead parents in understanding the interconnection of these varied topics, and to encourage parents in making plans that will optimize their child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Perhaps more importantly, this program gives parents real-life, concrete parenting tools preparing them to meet the needs of their individual children. How is the system set up? Families participating in Because they Waited™ are given their own set of DVDs that they view at their convenience. The Because They Waited™ Supplemental Study Guide helps to guide families in note taking and in focusing on key information. Those participating in the certificate of completion portion of the program then complete a series of questions via the Heart of the Matter Seminars website.
